Members of our Lieutenancy were invited by the Augustinian Cloistered Nuns to attend a mass on the occasion of the feast of St Catherine of Alexandria.
The celebration was held at the Monastery of St Catherine, Valletta.
Special thanks go to the Mother Abbess Sister Michelina Zammit OSA and Father Provincial Fr Leslie Gatt OSA.

Council members led by the Lieutenant Roberto Buontempo, participated together with members from SMOM Malta at a thanksgiving mass for the 10th Anniversary of the Episcopal Ordination of our Grand Prior and Archbishop Charles Jude Scicluna. The celebration was held at St John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta.

The Lieutenant, Roberto Buontempo, together with the Council and Members of the Maltese Lieutenancy wish to congratulate Grand Prior and Archbishop Charles Jude Scicluna on the 10th anniversary since his episcopal ordination.
On this solemn occasion, Mons Scicluna was presented with an episcopal ring to solidify the special bond that already exists between the Lieutenancy and its Grand Prior.
The investiture weekend came to a close on the 6th November 2022 with a visit to Rabat, Malta, attended by the Lieutenant, Roberto Buontempo, Council members, foreign dignitaries and guests and the newly invested Knights and Dames.
A thanksgiving mass was celebrated by Rev. Can. Joe Mizzi, Archpriest, at St Publius church. After which the group visited St Paul’s Grotto and the Lieutenancy’s Ecclesiastical Seat, ta’ Doni Church. Finally a reception was held at the Wignacourt Museum with the kind support of Mr Neville Agius.
A marble plaque with an inscription of a prayer by Pope Francis, kindly donated by our Lieutenancy to mark the Pope’s visit to St Paul’s Grotto on the 3rd April 2022, was unveiled and blessed.
The Vigil of Prayer and Investiture Ceremonies of the Maltese Lieutenancy of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem were held on the 4th & 5th November 2022 at the Collegiate Basilica of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Senglea and St Paul’s Metropolitan Cathedral in Mdina, respectively, in the presence of the Maltese Lieutenant, Roberto Buontempo. The Vigil was presided by Mgr. Joseph Galea-Curmi, Auxiliary Bishop of Malta while the investiture was presided by the Maltese Lieutenancy’s Grand Prior Mgr. Charles J. Scicluna, Archbishop of Malta. Eleven new Knights and Dames were invested into the Order.
The Lieutenancy was honoured by the presence of Their Excellencies Dott. Saverio Petrillo -Treasurer of the Order, Prof Not Ferdinando Parente – Lieutenant Italia Meridionale Adriatica, Dott Marco Cantori – Lieutenant for Italia Sardegna, Comm. Angelo Domenico Dell’Oro – Lieutenant for l’Italia Settentrionale, Ing Giuseppe Michele Marrani – Lieutenant for l’Italia Centrale Appenninica and Dame Grand Officer Mairead Walls representing the Lieutenant of Ireland.
The Investiture Ceremony was also attended by Marchesino Daniel de Petri Testaferrata, President of the Maltese Association of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.
