Our Order had the honour of receiving an invitation to participate in the Pilgrimage for Peace at Our Lady of Victories Basilica in Senglea. The celebration began with a solemn Mass, followed by a pilgrimage with the statue of Our Lady of the Rosary to the Annunciation Church in Vittoriosa. This pilgrimage culminated with a Sacramental Blessing.

Our heartfelt gratitude is extended to Rev Knight Robin Camilleri Archpriest of Senglea Basilica, and Dominican Prior Aaron Zahra, OP, for their invitation.

1st October 2023

The Gozo Delegation took part in the Feast of Our Lady of Good Health in the town of Qala, Gozo. Celebrations commenced with a procession along the Miraculous painting depicting the Image of the Immaculate Conception, proceeding towards the Archpriestal Church of St. Joseph in Qala. This year marks its 150th anniversary since being established as a parish. Mass was celebrated by Monsignor Edward Xuereb, the Archpriest of Qala.

This was the first event in which the Gozo Delegation participated after its inauguration at Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary by His Eminence Cardinal Mario Grech on the 17th August 2023.

We have been invited to participate in the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross at the Church of St. Mary of Jesus in Valletta. Our Lieutenancy, led by Lieutenant Roberto Buontempo, joined this meaningful event thanks to the invitation from the Arcikonfraternita’ tas-SSmu Kurcifiss.

The Mass was officiated by Guardian Fra Ramon Farrugia OFM.

Solemn Investiture – Croatia

On the invitation of the Magistral Delegate for Croatia Dr Claude Grbesa, our Lieutenant Roberto Buontempo joined the Vigil and investiture ceremonies of new Knights and Dames hailing from the region.

The ceremonies took place in the picturesque village of Marija Bistrica.

This was an occasion to meet other Lieutenants coming from neighbouring countries and to give all the support to the Croatian Magistral Delegation.

Upon the invitation of Fr Raphael Abdilla OSA, prior of St Mark’s Convent in Rabat, members of our Order led by Lieutenant Roberto Buontempo, participated during a Pontifical Mass presided by H.G Archbishop Charles Jude Scicluna, Grand Prior.

This was in celebration of Our Lady of the Holy Girdle Feast (Madonna tac-Cintura).

Members of our Order led by Lieutenant Roberto Buontempo were invited by Senglea’s Archpriest Rev. Can. Knight Robin Camilleri, to attend the Holy Translation as part of the festivities for Our Lady of Victories held at Our Lady of Victories Basilica, Senglea.

The community of Augustinian Cloister nuns within St. Catherine’s Monastery in Valletta invited our Order to attend a thanksgiving mass on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of Monastic life of Mother Abbess Mikelina Mifsud, O.S.A. The ceremony was presided by our Grand Prior, Archbishop Charles Scicluna.

Members of our Lieutenancy, led by the Lieutenant Roberto Buontempo, participated during the Solemn Translation with the relic of St. Helen followed by Vespers, as part of the celebration of the Feast of St. Helen. This occasion took place at the Collegiate Basilica of St. Helen in Birkirkara in the presence of H.E. Dr. George Vella, President of the Republic of Malta and his wife Mrs Miriam Vella, H.E. Frank Zammit, Ambassador to the Holy See and Mayor of Birkirkara Ms Joanne Debono Grech.

A Delegation of Gozo within the Maltese Lieutenancy of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, was inaugurated in a brief but meaningful ceremony. The Lieutenant for Malta, Roberto Buontempo, presented the decree with which the delegation was established, together with letters of appointment to the first officials, Comm. Euchar Mizzi and Rev Can John Muscat as Delegate and Prior respectively. The decrees were approved by the Order’s Grand Master, Cardinal Fernando Filoni. The Delegation’s standard was then passed on from the Lieutenant to the Delegate, to signify the creation of this Delegation.

The ceremony was presided by Cardinal Mario Grech. In his message, Cardinal Grech emphasized the mission of the members of the Order: that of sustaining the Christian presence in the Holy Land, where members strive to do all they can so that Christians do not disappear from this land, a land fraught with problems, where the only solution for peace can only be through forgiveness.

The Lieutenant led members of our Order to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the priestly Ordination of Rev Anton Farrugia Pisani, OFM, Ecclesiastical Master of Ceremonies of our Lieutenancy.

The mass was celebrated at the Collegiate Basilica of Birkirkara with the patronage of the Nuncio Mons Savio Hon Tai Fai.
