Activities and Events - Since 1996
Since 1996 an annual general meeting has been held for Maltese members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem in the course of which the Chairman (1996), the Magistral Delegate (1997-1999) and the Lieutenant (since 2000) read a report of all the activities held during the previous year.

Council meetings are normally held on a monthly basis (with greater frequency at some times of the year as with the approach of the investiture) but these are not indicated in the lists below. The following highlights the main activities and attendant events for each year over the past 10 years.

  Chairmanís Report for 1996

  • 10 March 1996 - the Cardinal Grand Master issued a Magistral Decree whereby he installed the Magistral Delegation of the Order for Malta.

  • 10 April 1996 - a meeting was held for members and prospective members at the Headquarters of the Scout Association in Floriana.

  • 13 June 1996 - a meeting was held at the Commissariat of the Holy Land in Valletta where the rules and regulations of the Magistral Delegation were presented to all the members present.

  • 1 July 1996 - the Cardinal Grand Master confirmed by Magistral Decree Comm. Louis Gera Lauron Testaferrata as the Magistral Delegate for Malta.

  • 2 August 1996 - a meeting for all members was held at the Headquarters of the Scout Association in Floriana in preparation for the investiture which was being held the following September. A small exhibition of items connected with the investiture was put up at that venue.

  • 13 September 1996 - a Vigil Service was held at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta. The ceremony, led by the Grand Prior Mgr. Emmanuel Gerada, was attended by the representatives of the Irish, French and Sicilian Lieutenancies.

  • 14 September 1996 - first investiture in Malta which was led by Grand Master Carlo Cardinal Furno, assisted by the Grand Prior Mgr. Gerada and Mgr. Laboa, the Apostolic Nuncio accredited to Malta. Other ecclesiastics who concelebrated included the vice Provincial of the Franciscan Order in Malta and Fr Marcello Ghirlando, the chaplain of the Magistral Delegation. Among those present was the Governor General of the Order, Count Ludovico Carducci Artenisio.

  • Magistral Delegate’s Report for 1997
    • 17 February 1997 - the first Annual General Meeting was held at the Sala Terra Sancta in Valletta.

    • 25 March 1997 - an exhibition on Holy Week, set up at the hall of the church of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Paceville, was opened by the Grand Prior Mgr. Emmanuel Gerada. Most of the exhibits, dealing with the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, came from the private collection of the Magistral Delegate, Comm. Louis Gera Lauron Testaferrata.

    • 28 March 1997 - for the first time members of the Magistral Delegation participated in the Good Friday procession from the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 9 May 1997 - a delegation from the Magistral Delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Archbishop of Malta, Mgr. Joseph Mercieca at the Curia in Floriana. In the course of the visit the Magistral Delegate presented the Archbishop with copies of the Magistral Decrees, installing the Magistral Delegation of Malta and the Magistral Delegate, for the Curia’s chancery.

    • 13 May 1997 - a delegation from the Magistral Delegation paid a courtesy visit to the President of Malta, Dr Ugo Mifsud Bonnici at the Presidential Palace in Valletta. The President was presented with copies of the Magistral Decrees, installing the Magistral Delegation of Malta and the Magistral Delegate, for the Palace archives.

    • 1 June 1997 - for the feast of Corpus Domini members of the Magistral Delegation participated in the procession organised by the Metropolitan Chapter of the Co-Cathedral of St John in Valletta.

    • 21 June 1997 - a commemorative mass was held at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta together with members of the Canadian Lieutenancy of the Order.

    • 21 July 1997 - the Magistral Delegate Comm. Louis Gera Lauron Testaferrata and the Chancellor Chev. Victor Licari paid a visit to the Governor General of the Order at the Order’s Headquarters in Rome.

    • 7 September 1997 - members of the Magistral Delegation participated in the Requiem Mass held at the Co-Cathedral of St John in Valletta.

    • 7 September 1997  - members of the Magistral Delegation participated in the festivities organised by the Vittoriosa Local Council to commemorate the two Great Sieges of Malta.

    • 8 September 1997  - members of the Magistral Delegation attended the Pontifical thanksgiving mass and solemn Te Deum in remembrance of the two Great Sieges at the Co-Cathedral of St John in Valletta.

    • 12 September 1997 - a Vigil Service, led by the Grand Prior Mgr. Emmanuel Gerada, was held at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 13 September 1997 - investiture of new members at the church of St Mary of Jesus by the Grand Prior Mgr. Emmanuel Gerada.
    • 10 November 1997 - in the course of a council meeting which was held at the residence of the Magistral Delegate Comm. Louis Gera Lauron Testaferrata, he expressed the wish to retire from the post.

    • 18 November 1997 - the Grand Master Carlo Cardinal Furno signed a Magistral Decree whereby Chev. Victor Licari was being appointed as the second Magistral Delegate of the Magistral Delegation for Malta of the Order.

    Magistral Delegate‘s Report for 1998
    • 3 February 1998 - the Magistral Delegate, the Grand Prior, Chancellor and Secretary had a meeting with the President of the Republic Dr Ugo Mifsud Bonnici at the Palace in Valletta. In the course of a very cordial meeting the Magistral Delegate presented the President with a copy of his appointment as Magistral Delegate for the Palace archives.

      The same members of the Magistral Delegation then proceeded to the Curia in Floriana where they were received by the Archbishop of Malta Mgr. Joseph Mercieca. The Magistral Delegate presented a copy of his appointment to the Archbishop. In the course of this meeting arrangements were made for the Magistral Delegation of Malta to be included in the directory of the diocese.

    • 20 February 1998 - the Annual General Meeting, presided by the new Magistral Delegate, was held at Sala Terra Sancta in Valletta.

    • 2 March 1998 - the diploma of Knight Grand Cross was presented by the Magistral Delegate to the former Magistral Delegate Chev. Louis Gera Lauron Testaferrata during a private ceremony at the latter’s residence.

    • 19 March 1998 - on the occasion of the feast of St Joseph the Magistral Delegation held a Spiritual Retreat at the convent of St Joseph in Rabat.

    • 10 April 1998 - participation at the Good Friday procession at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 17 April 1998 - the Magistral Delegate visited the Order’s Headquarters in Rome where he had a private audience with Grand Master Cardinal Furno.

    • 3 May 1998 - the Magistral Delegation was invited to officially participate in the feast of the Finding of the True Cross at the Basilica of St Helen in Birkirkara.

    • 11 May 1998 - Chev. Marco Spiteri Binett was appointed by the Council to serve as liaison with the sub-committee for religious functions.

    • 21 May 1998 - the Magistral Delegate and Mrs R. Licari participated and represented the Maltese Magistral Delegation at the exposition of the Holy Shroud in Turin. The Grand Prior, Comm. Victor Miceli and Mrs Miceli also attended.

    • 5 September 1998 - the Millennium Odyssey, a yacht and accompanying craft carrying the flame lit from the Holy Sepulchre, called at Malta, following indications from the Irish Lieutenancy through Comm. Victor Miceli. The Magistral Delegate managed to organise a dockside ceremony presided by the Grand Prior who accepted the flame and gave his special blessing to the fleet.

      The flame was later passed on, during a ceremony attended by members of the Magistral Delegation, the crews of the yachts and other officials, to Mgr. Arthur Said Pullicino who was to assure that it would be kept alight at the Mdina Cathedral. Members of the Magistral Delegation were later invited to a reception held at the Manoel Island Yacht Club.

    • 8 September 1998 - members of the Magistral Delegation attended pontifical mass on the feast of Our Lady of Victories at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta.

    • 12 September 1998 - on the occasion of the feast of the Holy Cross members of the Magistral Delegation attended a concelebrated mass, led by Fr Crispin Tabone, Provincial of the Capuchin Order in Malta, at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Rabat.

    • 22 September 1998 - the Magistral Delegate was promoted to the rank of Knight Commander Motu Proprio by the Cardinal Grand Master. The Grand Prior was awarded the Gold Palm of the Order.

    • 2 October 1998 - the Magistral Delegate attended and participated in the Order’s Consulta in Rome. This was followed by an audience with Pope John Paul II at the Vatican.

    • 29 October 1998 - members of the Magistral Delegation participated officially in the mass on the occasion of the visit of the statue of Our Lady of Nazareth which was held in the parish church of Mosta. The occasion was organised by the Commissariat of the Holy Land in Malta.

    • 5 December 1998 - members of the Magistral Delegation participated in the mass held at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta on the occasion of Holy Land Day.

    Magistral Delegate’s Report for 1999
    • 2 January 1999 - the Magistral Delegate and the Chancellor attended the ordination of the Auxiliary Bishop of Malta, Mgr. Anetto Depasquale.

    • 8 February 1999 - Annual General Meeting was held at Sala Terra Sancta in Valletta.

    • 28 February 1999 - visit from the Lieutenant of Ohio of the Order.

    • 2 April 1999 - members of the Magistral Delegation participated at the Good Friday procession at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 11 April 1999 - visit from the Lieutenant of Finland of the Order.

    • 3 May 1999 - members of the Magistral Delegation participated in the feast of The Finding of the True Cross organised by the Collegiate Chapter of the Basilica of St Helen in Birkirkara.

    • 23 May 1999 - Chev. Charles Mifsud delivered a lecture with slides about the Holy Land in preparation for the planned pilgrimage.

    • 26 May 1999 - courtesy visit to Mgr. L. Gatti, Archbishop and Apostolic Nuncio.

    • 15 July 1999 - celebration at the Mdina Cathedral to commemorate the 900th anniversary of the entry of Godfrey de Bouillon in Jerusalem. The Grand Prior, Mgr. Emmanuel Gerada, was presented with the Gold Palm of the Order, while President Emeritus Dr Ugo Mifsud Bonnici was presented with the Grand Cross with Star of Merit. On that occasion the Magistral Delegate Chev. Victor Licari was promoted to Knight Commander.

    • 18 July 1999 - the Magistral Delegate and the Grand Prior participated in the investiture ceremony in Ireland of the Irish Lieutenancy of the Order.

    • 6 September 1999 - departure of members of the Magistral Delegation for pilgrimage to Israel.

    • 14 September 1999 - visit to the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem and investiture of new members at the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem.

    • 16 September 1999 - return from Israel.

    • 4 December 1999 - members of the Magistral Delegation attended mass at the church of St Mary of Jesus in
      Valletta on the occasion of Holy Land Day.

    Lieutenantís Report for 2000
    • 10 January 2000 - members of the Magistral Delegation attended funeral of Chev. Joseph Runza.

    • 5 February 2000 - the Magistral Delegation organised a Requiem Mass for Chev. Runza.

    • 14 February 2000  -  Annual General Meeting was held at Sala Terra Sancta in Valletta.

    • 1 March 2000 - members of the Magistral Delegation went to Rome for the pilgrimage of the Order on the Year of the Great Jubilee - Peregrinatio Jubilaris.

    • 2 March 2000 - members of the Order attending the pilgrimage had a special audience with Pope John Paul II in Pope Paul VI hall.
    • 14 March 2000 - the Magistral Delegate Comm. Victor Licari and the Secretary Chev. Marco Spiteri Binett were interviewed by Mgr. Fortunato Mizzi in a radio programme on Radju MAS.

    • 19 March 2000 - on the occasion of the feast of St Joseph the Magistral Delegation organised a half-day retreat at Porziuncola House, Bahar ic-Caghaq.

    • 25 March 2000 - members of the Magistral Delegation participated at mass and procession organised by the parish of Balzan on the occasion of the 2000th anniversary of the Annunciation and as part of the feasts of the Great Jubilee of the Redemption. Their participation was made possible though a direct invitation by Fr Kalcidon Vassallo, parish priest of Balzan.

    • 19 April 2000 - the Magistral Delegation took part in the procession with the Miraculous Crucifix at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 21 April 2000 - members of the Magistral Delegation attended the procession of Good Friday at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 3 May 2000 - participation at the feast of the Finding of the True Cross organised by the Collegiate Chapter of the Basilica of St Helen in Birkirkara.

    • 25 May 2000 - Grand Master Carlo Cardinal Furno signed the Decree elevating the Magistral Delegation of Malta to a Lieutenancy and promoting the Magistral Delegate Comm. Victor Licari to a Lieutenant.

    • 25 May 2000 - members of the Lieutenancy participated in the celebrations on the 50th anniversary of the elevation of the parish church of Birkirkara to a basilica.

    • 8 July 2000 - the Council of the Lieutenancy were invited by Mgr. Coronato Grima, a knight of the Order on mission in Gibraltar for the 25th anniversary of his priesthood with a mass at St George’s basilica in Victoria, Gozo.

    • 19 August 2000 - members participate in the translation of the reliquary of St Helen from the church of St Paul to the basilica of Birkirkara.

    • 20 August 2000 - members participated in mass at the feast of St Helen in Birkirkara.

    • 1 September 2000 - The Lieutenant, accompanied by Mrs R. Licari and the Chancellor Comm. Vincent Attard participated in the beatification ceremony at the Vatican of Pope Pius IX and of Pope John XXIII.

    • 8 September 2000 - members of the Lieutenancy participated in the concelebrated mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta.

    • 21 September 2000  - members of the Lieutenancy participated in the concelebrated mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral on the occasion of the Independence of Malta.

    • 27 October 2000 - Vigil Service at St Mary of Jesus church in Valletta. Unveiling of plaque at the Commissariat of the Holy Land commemorating the elevation of the Magistral Delegation to a Lieutenancy. Among the special guests were Mgr. Michael Smith, Bishop of Meath, Mgr. Edward Dunne, parish priest of Dunnboyne and Kilbride, the former Lieutenant of Ireland Michael Macgrath and Dame Moira Macgrath, and Dr Royko, the Lieutenant of Hungary.

    • 28 October 2000 - Investiture at St Mary of Jesus church in Valletta.

    Lieutenant’s Report for 2001
    • 19 March 2001 - for the feast of St Joseph the Lieutenancy organised a half-day activity with mass at St Paul’s Grotto and a visit to the Wignacourt Museum in Rabat.

    • 11 April 2001 - the Lieutenancy attended the processional pilgrimage with the Miraculous Crucifix of the St Mary of Jesus church in Valletta.

    • 13 April 2001 - members of the Lieutenancy participated in the Good Friday procession at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 3 May 2001 - members participated in the feast of the Finding of the True Cross organised by the Collegiate Chapter of the Basilica of St Helen in Birkirkara.

    • 9 May 2001 - members of the Lieutenancy participated in the beatification ceremony on the Floriana Granaries of Dun Gorg Preca, Nazju Falzon and Adeodata Pisani by Pope John Paul II.

    • 11 August 2001 - death of Knight Grand Cross Louis Gera Lauron Testaferrata, first Magistral Delegate for Malta.

    • 8 September 2001 - the Lieutenancy attended a concelebrated mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta on the occasion of the feast of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

    • 21 September 2001 - members of the Lieutenancy participated in the concelebrated mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta on the occasion of the anniversary of the Independence of Malta.

    • 15 November 2001 - mass for deceased members of the Order at Tal-Herba sanctuary in Birkirkara.

    Lieutenant’s Report for 2002
    • 10 March 2002 - members of the Lieutenancy participated at the thanksgiving mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the priestly ordination of Mgr. Joseph Mercieca, Archbishop of Malta.

    • 19 March 2002 - on the feast of St Joseph the Lieutenancy held its Annual General Meeting.

    • 3 May 2002 - on the feast of the Finding of the True Cross members participated in the pilgrimage ‘Procession for Peace in the Holy Land’ organised in Valletta with the Miraculous Crucifix of the church of St Mary of Jesus.

    • 1 July 2002 - participation in the liturgical procession in Valletta of the feast of Blessed Nazju Falzon.

    • 14 July 2002 - farewell lunch at the Forum Hotel in St Andrew’s in honour of the chaplain Fr. Marcello Ghirlando who was leaving for Hong Kong.

    • 14 August 2002 - arrival of Mgr. Michel Sabbah, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem and Grand Prior of the Order, at the parish church of Mosta.

    • 15 August 2002 - members participated at the pontifical mass in Mosta on the occasion of the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, led by Mgr. Michel Sabbah.

    • 8 September 2002 - on the feast of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary the Lieutenancy participated at the concelebrated mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta.

    • 3 May 2003 - participation in the feast of the Finding of the True Cross organised by the Collegiate Chapter of the Basilica of St Helen in Birkirkara.

    • 14 June 2003 - members participated in the translation procession on the occasion of the feast of the Holy Trinity at the Capuchin church of the Holy Cross in Marsa.

    • 23 July 2003 - thanksgiving mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta on the occasion of the exposition of the relic of St Therese de Lisieux.

    • 22 / 23 August 2003 - participation at the feast of St Helen in Birkirkara.

    • 8 September 2003 - the Lieutenancy participated in the concelebrated mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta on the occasion of the feast of the Birth of Blessed Virgin Mary.

    • 13 September 2003 - Vigil Service at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 14 September 2003 - participation of members in the procession of the feast of the Triumph of the Holy Cross in the morning. In the evening investiture in the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 21 September 2003  -  the Lieutenancy participated in the concelebrated mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta on the occasion of the anniversary of the Independence of Malta.

    • 13 October 2003  -  the Lieutenant participated in the Consulta of the Order held in Rome and the beatification ceremony by Pope John Paul II of Mother Theresa of Calcutta.

    • 18 October 2003 - members participated at the thanksgiving mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the pontificate of Pope John Paul II, and the installation of the new Apostolic Nuncio accredited to Malta, Mgr. Felix del Blanco Prieto, Titular Archbishop of Vannida.

    • 15 November 2003  -  the Lieutenant represented the members of the Order at the funeral of Chev. Dr Philip Attard Montalto KM, president of the Malta Association of SMOM.

    • 6 December 2003  - participation at Holy Land Day at St Mary of Jesus church in Valletta.

    Lieutenant’s Report for 2004
    • 16 February 2004 - Annual General Meeting at Sala Bethlehem in Valletta.

    • 23 February 2004 - visit to Malta by Knight Grand Cross Serge Menard and Dame Grand Cross Maureen Menard from the Lieutenancy of Canada Montreal. On several occasions they met the Lieutenant and Secretary with whom they participated at the Ash Wednesday ceremony at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 9 April 2004 - members of the Lieutenancy participated in the Good Friday procession at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 3 May 2004  -  on the occasion of the feast of the Finding of the True Cross, members participated in the procession organised by the Collegiate Chapter of the Basilica of St Helen in Birkirkara.

    • 12 May 2004 - death of Comm. Vincent Ciancio.

    • 19 May 2004 - Council celebrates the birthdays of Pope John Paul II and Mgr. Emmanuel Gerada, Titular Archbishop of Nomentum, Apostolic Nuncio and Grand Prior.

    • 5 June 2004 - Requiem mass organised by the family of Comm. Vincent Ciancio at the Oratory of the Onorati in Valletta.

    • 26 June 2004 - Requiem mass organised by the Lieutenancy for Comm. Vincent Ciancio and celebrated by Mgr. Emmanuel Gerada, at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 27 June 2004 - Lieutenancy organised a visit to the Zabbar Sanctuary Museum.

    • 21 August 2004 - participation in the translation of the reliquary of the Holy Cross on the feast of St Helen in Birkirkara. In view of the participation of an unrecognised ‘Order of St John’, a directive was issued for members of the Lieutenancy not to attend the pontifical mass the following day.

    • 7 September 2004 - commemorative evening on the occasion of the Great Siege of Malta at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta.

    • 8 September 2004  -  on the occasion of the feast of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Lieutenancy participated in the concelebrated mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta.

    • 12 September 2004 - members participated in the procession on the feast of the Triumph of the Holy Cross at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 19 September 2004 - participation in Holy Land Day at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 21 September 2004 - participation in the concelebrated mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral on the occasion of the anniversary of the Independence of Malta.

    • 15 October 2004 - joint mass with visiting members of the Lieutenancy of Scotland at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta.

    • 20 / 21 October 2004 - participation at the arrival, veneration and departure of the relics of Blessed Miriam of Christ Crucified at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 4 December 2004  -  Holy Land Day at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    Lieutenant’s Report for 2005
    • 24 January 2005 - vigil service at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 27 January 2005 - arrival in Malta of Mgr. Kamal Hanna Batish, Patriarchal Vicar of Jerusalem. He was greeted by the Lieutenant and representatives of the parish of Fontana.

    • 28 - 30 January 2005 - festivities of the solemn anniversary of the National Shrine of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Fontana with the investiture of the first two Gozitan members of the Lieutenancy. Attended by representatives of the Irish, Scottish and Sicilian Lieutenancies of the Order and by the president of the Malta Association of SMOM. Prof. Guido de Marco was presented with the Grand Cross of Merit of the EOHSJ, while Mr John Zammit was presented with the Silver Palm of the Order.

    • 25 March 2005 - participation in the Good Friday procession at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 3 April 2005  -  in view of the death of Pope John Paul II, the Annual General Meeting of the Lieutenancy, due for 4 April, was postponed as a sign of mourning.

    • 18 May 2005  -  the Council celebrated the birthday of the Grand Prior Mgr. Emmanuel Gerada and remembered the late Pope John Paul II who would have celebrated his birthday on that same day.
    • 21 May 2005 - participation in the translation of the reliquary of the Holy Cross on the feast of the Holy Trinity in Marsa.

    • 3 June 2005 - members of the Lieutenancy attend concelebrated mass at the Floriana Granaries at the closure of the Diocesan Eucharistic Congress.

    • 5 June 2005 - Annual General Meeting of the Lieutenancy at Razzett l-Antik in Qormi..

    • 17 June 2005 - arrival in Malta of Ignace Moussa Cardinal Daoud who was greeted by the Lieutenant, the Secretary and representatives of the parish of Fontana. He was then escorted to the convent of St Augustine in Rabat (Gozo) from where members of the Lieutenancy participated in the translation of the relic of the Holy Cross to the church of Fontana.

    • 24 June 2005 - participation in the solemn translation from the Discalced Carmelite church of St Theresa to the Collegiate church of the Immaculate Conception of Cospicua on the occasion of the centenary of the crowning of the titular painting.

    • 30 June 2005 - members invited to attend the first release of the Oratorio of the Sacred Heart by the parish of Fontana which was held at the Mdina Cathedral.

    • 15 July 2005 - participation in the solemn translation on the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Valletta.

    • 20 August 2005  -  participation in the translation of the reliquary of the Holy Cross on the occasion of the feast of St Helen at the Basilica of Birkirkara.

    • 8 September 2005  -  the Lieutenancy participated in the concelebrated mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta on the occasion of the feast of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

    • 18 September 2005 - participation in the procession of the feast of the Triumph of the Holy Cross at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    • 13 October 2005  -  the Lieutenant was invited to attend at the feast of Blessed Gerard by the Malta Association of SMOM and the Embassy of SMOM in Malta.

    • 16 October 2005 - members attended mass at Ta’ Pinu in Gozo on the 27th anniversary of the election to the pontificate of the late John Paul II in view of the launching of the projected national monument to the Pontiff in Gozo..

    • 26 October 2005 - death of Knight Grand Officer Victor Miceli, a founding member of the Lieutenancy in Malta. Members attended his funeral at the church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Balluta.

    • 23 November 2005 - members participated in the solemn translation of the relic of St Catherine of Alexandria from the monastery to the church of the cloistered Augustinian nuns in Valletta.

    • 29 November 2005  -  the Lieutenancy organised a mass for the repose of the soul of Knight Grand Officer Victor Miceli and of other deceased members of the Order.

    • 3 December 2005  -  Holy Land Day at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.

    Lieutenant’s Report for 2006
    Considering that the Lieutenant’s report for 2006 will not be available until the next Annual General Meeting in 2007, what follows gives only some brief highlights of what happened during the current year up to the day of the investiture (16 September).
    • 7 February 2006 - members attended mass by the new Bishop of Gozo, Mgr. Mario Grech, at the parish church of Floriana.

    • 19 March 2006 - Annual General Meeting at L-Istazzjon restaurant, Rabat.

    • 2 April 2006 - members attended mass at the Ursuline church in Gwardamangia organised by the committee for the monument to Pope John II.

    • 3 May 2006  -  for the feast of the Finding of the True Cross, members participated in the procession organised by the Collegiate Chapter of the Basilica of St Helen in Birkirkara.

    • 10 June 2006 - solemn translation on the eve of the feast of the Holy Trinity in Marsa.

    • 16 June 2006 - translation at the parish church of Fontana.

    • 17 June 2006 - participation in the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at Fontana.

    • 14 July 2006 - solemn translation from the parish church of St Augustine to the Basilica Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Valletta.

    • 15 July 2006 - death of Chev. Reginald Attard.

    • 19 July 2006 - members of the Lieutenancy attended the funeral of Chev. Reginald Attard at the parish church of Gharghur.

    • 19 August 2006 - translation at the Basilica of St Helen in Birkirkara.

    • 20 August 2006 - participation at the pontifical mass at the Basilica of St Helen in Birkirkara.

    • 8 September 2006  - participation in the concelebrated mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta on the occasion of the feast of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

    • 15 September 2006 - Vigil Service at the church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta.
